We can all admit that none of us remember any advice we were given when we were pregnant. Or maybe I just had really bad pregnancy brain.
I’m sure some of us can also say there were things we got at our baby shower that we never used or never thought we would. This is my list of things I got from my baby shower and never used, until I found an even better way to use them!
1. Bottle warmer
I planned on breastfeeding my baby’s whole first year, but plans changed! Once I started feeding Xavier formula it was such a hassle warming up the water in the bottle then making sure it wasn’t too hot. Or even worse, mixing the bottle then realizing it was too cold and having to sit there with a glass of hot water trying to warm it up while the baby is crying. I also admit to microwaving the mixed bottle because I came to the realization it wouldn’t kill him. ANYWAYS, the bottle warmer worked well when we turned it all the way up and then sit there for a couple minutes while the baby cries and screams and drove us nuts. But, my husband one day thought of an amazing idea! Why don’t we fill the bottle to the needed ounces and find the perfect temp on the warmer and have the bottle sitting and warm for when we need it! That way when baby gets hungry all we have to do it grab the bottle, scoop however many scoops and shake and done! It has made every feeding so much faster and the crying time a lot less. Looking back now we think to ourselves DUH! But in the moment we had no idea how easy the bottle warmer could make life with a formula fed baby!
2. Diaper caddy
One of my relatives got me a diaper caddy and ranted and raved about how amazing they are and convenient, I didn’t even use it for the first month. One, because we had a changing table I was determined to get my money’s worth out of. Two, we live in a tiny one bedroom apartment, not a two story house. But, since our son doesn’t eat and play in our bedroom it became a necessary item! I’m so glad I have it now because whether he’s in the bedroom or the living room we’ve always got diapers and wipes in reach.
3. Muslin Blankets
After my baby shower I got so many sets of muslin blankets I had no idea how I would ever use them all. I mean, I took three sets back to the store and still had three more at home. We could have swaddled him in a different one for a month straight! Not to mention the number of swaddles we got... I kept the cutes sets and I wanted to use them all so bad, I just didn’t know how! Once we started tummy time he would almost always spit up all over the carpet, so we decided to start putting a burp rag under his head. This worked right up until he could start hold things, then he would just wad the tag up and manage to spit up everywhere besides the rag! This is when we decided, duh! Use the 128,530,475 blankets we have! (That’s just a rough estimate) They were bigger and while he still pulled them every which way, he almost never missed the blanket when he spit up! Hallelujah! This also helped him from getting all the hair that seemed to magically shed from my head everyday all wrapped up in his fingers. (If you don’t lose half of your hair everyday, you’re a very lucky mom)
Those are my top three! I only wrote about these because they were either too expensive to waste, had too many to waste, or ended up being an everyday use! I hope my uses will help you use those items, or think of new ways to use the items you never thought you would! Comment if you have any items you found a new or better use for!
